FINAL GALLOPS.

THE AUCKLAND MEETING.

WORK AT ELLEKSLIE.

SPIRAL AND MOTHER SUPERIOR.

The weather was fine though dull for the final gallops in connection with the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting at Ellerslie this morning. The course proper, on which the poles were 45ft out, was used for fast work, and the going was good. There was a large amount of work, and some first rate efforts were recorded. Among the sprinters Heritage, Spiral, Mother Superior, Imamint and Gay Defence pleased most, while Caliente, Tybalt, Kelly and Kiltowyn gave the best displays over the longer distances. The Course Proper. Imamint opened proceedings by sprinting half a mile in 53 2-ss. She did it well. Moquette and Entail, after running their first two furlongs in 255, completed five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. They finished together, after Entail getting an advantage at the start. It was a good effort on the part of both horses. The three-year-olds Haut Monde and Plato were responsible for a sound effort over seven furlongs. They ran the first two in 25 3-ss, four in 51 2-ss, and completed the distance in 1.32 There was nothing between them at the end. Impasto did useful work, but was not timed. The two novices Hope Lass and Professional reeled off half a mile in 52 3-ss. They were on terms, and it was a smart effort. There was little between Mungatoon and On Parade at the end of five furlongs, which occupied 1.8 4-5. The best seven furlongs of the morning was credited to Heritage (Wiggins), who ran the distance in 1.31 4-5. He covered the first half-mile in 51 3-se, and was staying on solidly at the' end.

Pasha strode home from the half-mile poet in 54 4-ss, doing it nicely. Zane Grey was sent a mile and a quarter, covering the last round in 2.19 2-5, and the final seven furlongs in 1.36 3-5. liust (R. Fearn) was timed to run the last six furlongs of her work in 1.23 4-5. She went very evenly, and had something in reserve at the finish. Royal Appellant took 1.10 4-5 to complete his last five furlongs. Kelly (G. Gilchrist) jumped off at the mile post, and after running the first four furlongs in 52 3-ss, completed the gallop in 1.40 3-5. He was running on soundly at the finish, and although lightly weighted his performance w;ts very creditable. Tidalia just beat Hunting Maid at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.7. Five Mitchelson Cup candidates, Caliente (Walsh), Tybalt (McTavish), Senior (Wiggins), Sunee (McFarlane) and Arctic King, with Sir Romeo (Gilchrist), were associated over a mile and a quarter, and finished as named, except that Sir Romeo was in front of Arctic King. They ran the full distance in 2.18, the last round taking 2.7 4-5, the final seven furlongs 1.35 1-5, and the last half-mile in 54 3-ss. When they settled down Caliente was in charge, and stayed there to the end, though Tybalt, who was giving her some weight, was going particularly well just behind her. Senior and Sunee shaped satisfactorily, and although Arctic King finished last he is stated to be a bad track worker. Etcetera was in front of Solas, with Roman Mascot a couple of lengths back, at the end of five furlongs in 1.7 1-5. Etcetera did his work ■well, and is steadily improving. Lagoon and Mungacre completed a similar distance in 1.8, finishing on terms. Fleetwind was given an easy half-mile, which ehs traversed in 58 3-ss, Bayora covering the same journey in 55 l-ss. Spiral (McFarlane) and Mother Superior (Wiggins) were responsible for the best six furlongs of the morning, in which Spiral impressed the better of the pair. They ran the first three in 39 l-ss, and'the full distance in 1.19 2-5.

Gay Broney (McTavish) ran home from the six-furlong post in 121 1-5, Te Broney (Parsons) assisting him over the last five, which were covered in 1.8 1-5. They finished together, and Gay Broney worked well, Royal Broney was timed to run six furlongs in 1.24 1-5, King Mestor covering the same ground in 1.23 2-5. The stable mates, Sir Abb and Gay Marigold, were allotted seven furlongs, Sir Abb finishing several lengths in front in 1.32 2-5, Gay Marigold taking 1.34. This mare drifted back toward the finish and her display was disappointing. However, she shaped similarly on one occasion last year, but won a few days afterwards. Express was going slightly better than Teddy Boy after running six furlongs in 1.22 1-5, the first three being covered in 3!) 4-ss. It was a useful effort for this pair. Dawning Light reeled off half a mile in 53 3-ss, hitting out very freely, and Free Advice completed five furlongs comfortably in 1.11. After schooling, Hawthorn got to the end of seven furlongs in 1.41 3-5. The Guineas candidates, Bantry (Wiggins) and Lowenberg (Flower), went away slowly from the mile post, and were timed to run their last Bcven furloDgs in 1.35, They covered the first three in 40 l-ss, and Bantry was just shading Lowenberg at the end. It wag a good effort and both impressed. Killadar sprinted three furlongs in 40 2-ss. He seems to have improved after his racing at Paeroa.

Tray Bit (Walsh) jumped away about two lengths in front of Solaria (Clifford), with Gay Defence (Wiggins) three lengths further back at the five-furlong post. Tray Bit led throughout and ran the distance in 1.6 3-5, Solaria taking 1.6 1-5, while Gay Defence must have run a couple of seconds faster. Vera Acre and Queen Brierly ran half a mile in 565. They finished together, after being wide out all the way. After Breakfast. Valspear strode over five furlongs, averaging about 15s to the furlong, and Valmint covcred six furlongs in 1.30 1-5. He did it very easily. Kiltowyn (Goldfinch) ran a mile and a quarter in 2.20, the final round taking 2.9 1-5 and the final seven furlongs 1.34 4-5. Ho worked alone and it was a good effort. Gemland cleared right away from Vanners over five furlongs, which occupied 1.8 1-5. Monanui I Home), after running her first three furlongs in 41 3-ss, completed seven furlongs in 1.30 3-5, the last h.\lf-mile taking 555. Sim finished on well and could have done better, as she appeared to have her tongue over the bit at the end. After schooling, Bed Sun got to the end of seven fuilongs in 1.40 2-5, and Lord Val covered six furlongs in 1.27 3-5. Armacourt reeled off half a mile in 53 l-ss, but had little in reserve at the end. Baroscope, Catoma and Gascclle were sent over a mile and a quarter. They finished together, though the formei pleased most. Jewelled Girdle was not bustled while running six furlongs in 1.J6 4-5, working lazily thr jzhout.

The Jumpers. Wee Pat (T. Williams) was schooled over a couple of hurdles in the centre, giving a good display. Hawthorn (T. Williams) was sent over the same fences and jumped safely. Lord "V al (Burgess) was just in front of Red Sun (C. Thomson) after negotiating fpur hurdles. Lord Val hit the third tenco very hard, otherwise both jumped well. Alantus (E. Stanway) gave a satisfactory exhibition over tue big fences on the flat. Clarion Call (A. Jenkins), Cardhu (J. Meßae), Petrarch (A. McDonald) and Erination (A. McGregor) were associated in a round of the steeplechase country and finished as named. Cardhu and Petrarch led until they got to the foot of the hill, where Clarion Call ran up to them and A'as just in front after jumping the double and stonewall the second time, the other pair and Erination finishing up over the water jump and stonewall. Cardhu, Petrarch and Clarion Call were making their first appearance over the Ellerslie country and their showing was most encouraging.
