PRISONER'S WEDDING.
OFFICIAL SANCTION NEEDED,
The wedding between a prisoner who was arrested on a burglary charge last week and a woman aged 31, which was fixed to take place at 4.30 p.m. yesterday in a city church, was not solemnised.
After she had taken out the marriage license, the prospective bride and the clergyman who was to officiate were informed that permission would have to be obtained from the Controller of Prisons in Wellington before the prisoner could get married. The prisoner, who had been in the city lock-up yesterday, was returned to Mount Eden Prison during the afternoon. Application is being made to the Prisons Department for permission to hold the wedding, and it is expected that the ceremony will take place very shortly.
