CANTERBURY'S SUCCESS. Delayed results in the final telegraphic chess match for the Bledisloe Cup, between tJig Auckland and Canterbury Clubs, which was concluded on September 7, sliow that Canterbury lias won tne cup by 11 games to 9. Details of games which were the subjcct of adjudication arc as follow, Auckland players b'jij* mentioned first in each instance: Dr. T. G. Short and Grant drew; X. Park lost to Hawkins; E. King and Mitchell drew; H. Lees and Joyce drew; C. G. Lennard and Dal ton drew.
PLAY FOR WORLD TITLE.
AMSTERDAM, October 7. Alekhinc. the Russian, won the first game in 30 moves in the world's chess championship, playing against Dr. Euwe (Holland). Thirty games comprise the championship and at least six points out of a winning total of 15% must be scored in won games. Dr. Euwe defeated Alekhine in the second game, Alekhine resigning after his opponent had forced a win in a few moves after the forty-fifth.
