SHIPPING PROBLEM. POSSIBLE ROUTE DIVERSION. The "Yorkshire Post" says the possibility of a diversion of the urgently needed wool clip via the Cape is worrying the trade. It is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain Merino tops for reasonably quick delivery, most topmakers quoting delivery not earlier December. MELBOURNE WOOL SALES. (Received 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. At the wool sales there was a further hardening in prices for average to good Merino wool, the top price of which was 20 l ,id. Comebacks sold to 19d. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, October 8. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 12,967 ii }n evo offered an d 12,165 were sold. -Also, 1200 bales were sold privately. Strong and general competition was forthcoming from the Yorkshire and •Japanese sections, with good support from the Continent. For the best spinners' wools suitable for Yorkshire the market ruled from par to 5 per cent above the closing rates of last week. Other descriptions were firm and unchanged. Greasy Merino sold to 19% d. The average price of the wool sold in Sydney last week was £15 3/3 a bale, or 11.9 d a lb.
