AN IMPROVED MARKET.
SALES AT HIGHER PRICES.
There wag a slightly better tone on the Auckland Stock Exchange to-day, and sales were made at higher prices. In the banking section bidding was dull, but New Zealands gained 3d with a transaction at £2 0/0 and more wanted at that figure, with holders back at £2 10/. Insurances also showed some recovery. South British were Od up with business at £4 7/6 and more wanted, .with sellers at £4 0/, Buyers for New Zealands moved up to £3, but holders asked 1/0 higher. There was freer bidding in the miscellaneous classes, both Dominion and Australian. Lewis Eady preferences were again on offer at 19/, and a buyer came in at 9/9. In the mining section Marthas were in demand at £1, but there were 110 sellers. There were buyers for all issues of Government stocks, and buyers moved up to £102 5/ for '39-'43 and to £101 15/ for '37-'4O. On The Mend. The improved tone noted at the first call continued during the morning, and was reflected in further price advances at the midday gathering. Bank of New Zealands gained another 4d, with business £2 9/10 and more wanted, with sellers up to £2 10/2. In actual business South British and New Zealand Insurances each gained 6d, with sales at £4 8/ and £3 respectively, buyers remaining in for New Zealands at £3 0/3 and for South British at the sales price. Australians were also better. INTEREST BATES. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends, works out as follows on the latest sales. When Government stocks are included, the calculation provides for redemption at maturity. When payment is made in sterling, exchange is added.
