STEEPLECHASE EVENTS.
MOUNT ALBERT GRAMMAR. W. N. CLARK'S SUCCESS. About 130 boys competed in the annual steeplechase of the Mount Albert Grammar School, which was held In three grades yesterday. Conditions were not favourable for the event, and, all things considered, good times were registered by the competitors. The course led over about three miles. Commencing at the school grounds, the competitors encircled Mount Albert to finish at the school. Both the senior and intermediate championships were won by W. X. Clark, aged 15, while another intermediate. 11. D. Hutchinson, was, also placed in both events. The winner's time was 16.45, as compared with the record of 15.30, established by W. A. Briggs in 1030. The Junior title went to A. G. McGregor. Detailed results of the various events were as follow :— CHAMPIONSHIPS. Senior.—W. N. Clark 1, M. V. Hutchinson 2, 11. D. Hutchinson 3. Time, 10.45. Intermediate.—W. N. Clark 1, H. D. Hutchinson 2, 13. J. Tompkins 3. Time, 10.45. " Junior.—A. G. McGregor 1, K. H. Hemus 2, E. C. Palmer 3. Time, 18.21. Sealed handicap events held in conjunction resulted as follow :— Senior.—C. If. Hcuius 1, R. L. Nugent 2, E. N. Harden 3. Intermediate. —E. G. Martin 1, G. C. Gemming 2, N. W. Tlioin 3. Junior. —E. C. Palmer 1, A. 11. White 2, E. G. Millar 3.
TAKAPUNA GRAMMAR SCHOOL,
The Takapuna Grammar School also decided its annual steeplechase yesterday, when large fields fought out the senior and Junior events. In the senior division A. Darroch gained fastest time, covering the course in 19.41. Over a shorter course in the Junior section B. Crawford (17.0) proved the fastest. In the senior handicap -event, J. Taylor (4.30) was first home, and G. I'oulton (4.0) headed the Juniors. The course started at the - school gate and proceeded along the concrete road to the Takapuna racecourse, along Malvern Road to Narrow Neck beach, thence up Old Lake Road to Victoria Road, and finished on the sports ground in front of the school. Following were the results :— Senior Chmplonship.—A. Darroch, 19.41, 1 ; G. Turbott, 19.43, 2 ; H. Hughes, 19.46, 3. Junior Championship.—B. Crawford, 17.0, 1; C. Grainger, 17.5, 2; 11. Aim, 17.7, 3. Senior Handicap.—J. Taylor, 4.30, 1 ; A. Mowday, 4.10, 2; S. Dailimore, 4.0, 3. Junior Handicap.—G. Poulton, 4.0, 1; J. Pollard, 4.50, 2; C. Grainger, 3.50, 3.
