HEIR TO THRONE.
Ma ny people are under the impression that if the Duchess, of Kent has a son he will cut out the prospect of Princess Elizabeth succeeding to the Throne, as our Cnown goes to heirs male (says an Englisft paper). The Duchess of Kent has cor.tainly been taken to the hearts of the j»eople, but they will always have a partaeularly special regard for the Scottish. Duchess of York, whose marriage hitherto has been unblessed by a son, and ior her daughters. Despite ■ the accession of Queen Victoria while her uncle, the Duke of Cumberland, was alive, probably quite half the population goes on believing that if neither the Prince of Wales nor the Duke of Gloucester marry and have sons, or a scA'i is not born to the Duke of York, a som of the Duke of Kent, if he has one, would succeed to the Throne in the fullness of time. This is not so. Until the Prince of Wales or the Duke of York has a son—in the case of the Prince or a daughter—Princess Elizabeth is third heir to tithe throne.
