TOBACCONISTS MEET.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRADE. OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK. A largely attended meeting of the Auckland District Retail Tobacconists and Hairdressers’ Association was held on Thursday evening in the Chamber of Commerce, the president, Mr. C. E. Walker, being in the chair. It was decided t 0 support the proposed agreement between the Tobacco Manufacturers and Agents’ Association and al retailers. In connection with the agreement the secretary-organiser, Mr. R. M. Carter, gave a report of the recent conference in Wellington and it was decided that a minimum of 9d be charged in all Auckland suburbs for children’s haircutting.
An outline of the recent growth of the association was given by Mr. Carter. Many matters of interest to the tra le were discussed and the report generally proved that business was definitely on the upward grade. The country delegates present spoke in similar strain, and there was a feeling of optimism compared with the outlook 12 months ago.
