A SONG OF SPRING.
(By May Laing, 17. Lawrenee Street, Mount Eden, S.W.I; age 12 years.)
Oh the song of the spring is a. joyous roundelay, And the song of the birds as they build is bright and gay, And the fresh budding trees make the country seem more fair, As the soft breezes blow in the sweet and balmy air. Chorus:
Then heigho! for the spring and the glad songs that I sing As I wander through the woodlands singing, “Welcome, happy spring. Oh, the song of the spring is a joyous roundelay, And the brook ripples softly as it babbles on its way, Through meadows fresh and green where the simple daisies grow And the lovely yellow buttercups create a golden glow, Then heigho! eta, >
But soon will come the summer and the spring will pass away, The growing birds will leave their nests and wander far away, But the freshness of the springtime in my memory will remain, And will help me through the year till she returns again. Then heigho! etc.
