CARPETS.

The advantages of a square or unfitted carpet with the appearance of one which covers the floor more completely may be obtained by using separate pieces for the fireplace recesses. These must be so placed that they and the carpet fit closely against each other, anl both carpet and pieces are then fastened down with carpet tacks. Though it is best to do this with a plain or mottled carpet, so that the division is unnoticeable, ft small jazz pattern looks well, as there are no definite lines to catch the eye.
