RIO DE JANEIRO—ONE OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST CAPITALS.
RIO DE JANEIRO is not only one of the great cities of the world, but is unlike any other. (I) The panorama from the summit of the famous Sugar Loaf a lofty pinnacle of rock in the harbour. (2) The lovely t> alm-bordered MANCUE CANAL was constructed through a swamp, which has been transformed into one of the finest parts of the city. (3) The colossal CHRISTUS, which from the summit of Mount Corcovado stretches out Us arms over the Me of Rio de Janeiro and its bay. The statue stands 98 feet high and cost £lBO,OOO to set up. (4) The view from Mount Corcovado. In the foreground are Botofago Bay and the Sugar Loaf (to which leads the most remarkable cableway in the World), and beyond are the approaches to the harbour.
