TRANSFER OF SHARES.

CHARGE BY COMPANIES. The practice that has obtained amongst New Zealand companies of charging a transfer fee, usually 2/6, for transfer of shltres, is objected to by Auckland sharebrokers, and a move is being made by the Auckland Stock Exchange to induce listed companies to discontinue the practice. It is understood the lead has been followed by the Christchurch Exchange, and efforts will be made to bring the Wellington and Dunedin Exchanges into line.

A requirement that the transfer of shares be made free of charge is now one of the conditions of listing on the Auckland Exchange. As a result, no fee is charged by companies recently added to the list, such as K.D.Y. Boxes and New Auckland Laundry. However, the majority of companies already listed make a charge. As far as it is known, the practice of charging fees is peculiar to New Zealand. It is not common in Australia.
