LADIES’ GOLF.
AUCKLAND CLUB. CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS. MISS UPTON'S SUCCESS. Conditions were perfect yesterday when the semi-finals and finals of the Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club's championships were played at Middlemore. The senior championship was won by .Miss E. M. Upton, who defeated Mrs C. J. Green in the final .5 and 4 Alter halving the first holo Miss Upton took the next throe holos in 4, 4. 4, to her opponent's 5, 6 5 The fifth and .sixth went, to Mrs. Green but Miss Upton won the seventh anil eighth and, with a half at the ninth was 3 up at the turn. The position was unchanged after the twelfth hole had been played, but at the thirteenth Mrs. Green was bunkered with lici' tee shot and jMiss Upton won the holo in 3to 4 The end came at the next hole, which was won by Miss Upton m 4 to her opponent’s 5.
Ihe semi-finals were both closely contested, Miss Upton accounting for last year s winner, Mrs. G. R. Buttle, 1 up, while Mrs. Green and Mrs. J. T Lean went to the twenty-first before the former won.
The junior championship was won by Mrs. R. G. Rainger, who defeated Mrs D Gome 4 and 3. In the semi-finals Airs. Rainger beat Miss I. D. Lever 3 and 1, mid Mrs. Goriie beat Miss 8. Mahoney i up.
. I'ollowing are the results of matches played m the fourth round of the W. R. Wilson Cup competition: Mrs. AV S Ralph beat Mrs. C. M. Croft, 4 and 3; Mrs. G. Henderson beat Miss M. Russell, 4 and , 2;-Mrs. Rainger won from Mrs. A. M. Clark by default; Miss I. 1). Levelbeat Mrs. G. Ferguson. 4 and 3; Miss C. Rainger beat Miss S. Mahoney, 7 and 6; Miss M.’ Savage beat Mrs. A'. W. Rushton, 7 and 5; Miss E. M. Upton beat Mrs. J. F. Brown, 4 and 3. The next round must be played by Friday week.
NORTH SHORE CLUB. The first round for Mrs. Swnnston’s trophy will be played by week-end members of the North Shore Ladles’ Golf Chib. A scramble will be played by members not taking part in match play, players to choose partners. PUPUKE CLUB. Guy, ajso of Manawatu, 1 up in a hard-fought filial’. OTOROHANGA CHAMPIONSHIP. t .. The Otorohanga ladies’ golf championship jilgyesl during the week-end over 36 holes resulted in a win for Mrs. Leigh, who defeated Mrs. Austin in the final, 1 up. In registering her third successive win in the championship, Mrs. Leigh established a new course record of 78.
