(By Telegraph.—Special to “Star.”) DUNEDIN, this day. The surprise of the tournament was the defeat of Purdie in the final of the welterweight division. The Aucklander did all the attacking in the early stages of the bout, but Arbuthnot soon settled down, and his deadly raking left began to take its toll. Purdie was ahead on points until the end of the first round, but after this Arbuthnot scored repeatedly and ran out a decisive winner. Hardly had the heavy-weight bout commenced than Lindsay connected to the head with a left and sent Brant down for seven with a right to the jaw. Brant rose, but Lindsay came in again with another heavy right to the jaw, and the contest was over.
