SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A very interesting address was given at the New Women's Club room at the Tuesday luncheon-hour talk and discussion. The liaison officer of the Social Credit movement gave an address on social credit in Canada, having just returned from that country.

On Thursday afternoon Miss Madge Elliott opened a demonstration at George. Court and Sons, Ltd. toilet department, on the ground floor. Miss Elliott wore a very smart bottle green summer suit and a very chic green felt hat to match. On arrival at the store Miss Elliott was met by the hostess, who on behalf of George Court and Sons presented her with a beautiful bouquet of boronia, primroses and pansies. After a short and charming speech Miss Elliott declared the demonstration open. She was then made the recipient of a presentation casket on behalf of the firm.

On Thursday evening the Australian League football team were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. Cawood-Edwards, of “Ngati-Whatua,” Herne Bay. The lounge was decorated in green and yellow, the colours of the Australian team, while the Australian atmosphere was increased by the decorations of waratah. During the evening items were given by Mrs. C. Pike, Miss Mary Wathcw, Misses Mary and Janet Drysdale, Wynne Stone and Betty Cawood-Edwards. Later members of the. team gave several enjoyable items, including personations by Mr. Lewis and piano solos by Mr. F. Curran, while the entire team rendered a number of fine choruses and concluded with their war cry. During the evening daucing was also enjoyed. At the conclusion the joint manager, Mr. Chaseling, thanked the host and hostess for the enjoyable entertainment. Captain Brown, on behalf of the team, also expressed his thanks. Among those present were: Mesdames R. IT. Keenan. C. Pike. G. L. Lovett. F. Holland, -Montague Fisher, K. A. Sneddon. I’{. R. Lovett. Misses Lulu Drysdale. Mary Wathew. Betty Hardy, Mary Drysdale, Jean Bell-Booth. Wynne Stone, Molly Kelly. Denise Holmes. Betty Kelly, Maureen Hickey, Janet Drysdale and Betty Cawood-Edwards.
