DWELLING DESTROYED.
OCCUPANTS’ HURRIED EXIT.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKT, Friday.
A four-roomed dwelling in tiie Waioeka Valley, owned by the Land and Survey Department, is reported to have been totally destroyed by fire. The house was leased by Mr. V. S. Botton and occupied by Mr. Toamai Korotau and Mr. and Mrs. George Hawea and their two children. The occupants retired at 11 p.m., and Mr. and Mrs. Hawea were awakened early this morning by Mr. Toamai. They had only sufficient time to take the children to safety and save a few belongings. 'The contents of the house were not insured, but the dwelling was insured in the Pearl Insurance Company.
