Martial law has been proclaimed, and a military parade 'arranged for tomorrow in honour of the King's birthday, has been cancelled in consequence of the discovery of a plot against the Government organised by Colonel Veltcheff, the Republican leader, with the co-operation of the agrarians. Colonel VeltchefT and M. Todorolf, exMinistcr of Finance, have been arrested. The British United Press says the plotters hoped to dethrone King Boris. LANG LABOUR REBUFF. BROKEN HILL PROPRIETARY. (Received 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. In the House of Representatives Mr. J.. A. Beaslev, leader of the Lang Laboulgroup, attacked the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, alleging that it was aiming, with the help of the tariff, oversea capital and the proposed absorption of the Australian Iron and Steel Company to create a steel trust and exploit the Australian people and workmen. Ho asked the Government to appoint a select committee of inquiry.
The Prime Minister refused. He said the majority of Australians were proud of the wonderful progress this great organisation had made, and he saw no reason to create a precedent by holding a "fishing" inquiry into a company's private affairs.
