SOUTH AUCKLAND UNION.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOIIE, Wednesday. At a meeting of the management committee of the South Auckland Rugby Union last evening the president, Mr. S. I'. Day, explained a scheme to improve the standard of Itugby in South Auckland. The past season, said Mr. Day, had been •unsatisfactory mainly because of the lowering of the standard of club football. Tills had meant a falling-ofL' of public attendance and a consequent serious loss of revenue. Players also must be given the incentive to play in high grade football, otherwise they would turn to other sports A higher standard could be obtained bv eliminating the sub-union competition and inaugurating a senior competition composed of, say two teams from the Pnkekolie and franklin unions, and one team each from ~ •iltikn, Manukau, Maungatawhirl and Waikare Unions. After providing these teams sub-unions would conduct other grade competitions in the same manner as the Manukau Union had done in the past season. With these changes accomplished tiie unions should make every* endeavour to obtain direct affiliation with the New Zealand Rugby Union.

After a lengthy discussion it that delegates obtain an expression of opinion from their respective unions and report to a meeting of the parent body early next year.
