MOUNT ALBERT'S OFFER.

LEVEL CROSSING PROBLEM.

A letter was received from the general manager of the New Zealand Railways at last night's meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council stating that the estimated cost of eliminating the level crossing at Gladstone Road by moans of an overhead bridge was £5000. In order that further consideration might be given to tho proposal the council was asked to advise to what extent it was prepared to contribute towards the cost, On the motion of the Mayor, Mr. R, Ferner, it was decided to inform the department that the council was propared to form an adequate bituminiscd carriageway over the bridge and its approaches, also to form and concrete both footpaths and approaches, the offer to be conditional on a subsidy being obtainable from tho Unemployment Board of 35/ per mall per week on labour engaged by the council on the undertaking.
