BAY OF PLENTY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, Tuesday. At the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Lawn Tennis Sub-association the following officers were elected: —President, Mr. K. H. The report stated that a satisfactory season had been experienced, and the standard of play had improved considerably during the past season. A strong Auckland team had visited the Bay of Plenty and the sub-association's representatives had more than held their own in the matches played. Membership had increased slightly, and prospects for the 1935-36 season were particularly bright. The Dunlop Shield, for senior teams, was won by Tauranga South Club, while Waimana won the Watt Cup for junior teams. The Lees Challenge Cup was successfully defended by the Tauranga South Club. The open tournaments at Kotorua and Tauranga again proved very popular. Recommendations for Inter-dub matches with Waikato and Thames Valley teams, and a visit from overseas players arranged by the Auckland Association, as well as a return match with Auckland, were passed by the delegates.

GAME IN TX.S.A. THE LOS ANGELES TOURNEY. LOS ANGELES, September 23. The final of the men's Pacific south-west championship singles at Los Angeles ended unsatisfactorily, Menzel defaulting to Budge when the latter was leading I—6, 11—9, 6—3. Menzcl said he defaulted in deference to his mixed doubles partner, Carolin Babcock, with whom he played in the semi-final later. Although it seemed likely that Budge would win, as Menzel obviously was foot weary, there had been little difference between the two players. Yesterday's match between Budge and Shields was a semi-final, not the final, as cabled. Allison defaulted owing to a baa cold. In the mixed doubles Menzel and Miss Babcopk won the first set 6—3 from Brugnon and Miss Lyle and lost the second 5—7. Play was stopped owing to darkness and will bo resumed to-morrow. Budge and Mrs. Van Ryn advanced to the finals by beating Maier and Miss Stammers, 7 —9, 6-4, 10-8.
