AMATEUR ATHLETICS

OTAHUHTJ CLUB. SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR. The success of the first year's activities was commented on at the annual meeting of the Otahulm Amateur Athletic Club. Mr. F. W. Grey presided. The report stated that since the formation of the club in October last year nye open and 17 club meetings were held in Sturgees Park. The outstanding feature was the remarkable interest and support accorded by the public. The club membership had increased to 99. An acknowledgment of the club's progress was the granting of permission f>y the Auckland Centre to hold two provincial relay championships at open meetings arranged by the club. , The financial statement showed that the gate takings for the season totalled and that after meeting all expenses the club had a credit balance of about £50. Oflicers were elected as follow: —1 atron, Mr. W. W. Massey, M.P.; president, Mr. F. W. Grey; vice-presidents, same as lust year, with power to add; treasurer, Mr. 11. Hayr; secretary, Mr. C. A. Porter; auditor, Mr. R. W. F. Wood; delegates to Auckland Centre, Messrs. W. Whitmore, C. A. Porter and F. W. Grey; club captain. Mr. G. Wliye; handicapper, Mr. W. McManus; committee, Messrs. J • Clarke, J. Sinclair, F. Arnold, W.Wlntmore, R. F. Hunter, T. Mann, W. McManus and It. Bicl.

Thomas was included In the provincial team which competed at Wnnganut in March in the New Zealand championships, while other members competed in meetings at Dargaville and Te Awamutu. In scratch meetings field by tiie Auckland Centre tiie club gained 184 points, as against 65, 01 and 10 scored by other clubs. The club suffered a severe loss during the year through tiie death of Miss J. Armour, a Keen and active member, who had competed with success on the track. The following officers wore elected : — President, Mr. V. Hugo; vice-presidents, Miss A. Law, Messrs. A. Moon, 11. L. Towers; club captain, Mrs. D. Uarris; honorary secretary-treasurer, Mr. 11. ltobinson; honorary assistant secretary, Mrs. B. Thomas ; delegate to Auckland Centre, Mr. V. Hugo ; honorary auditor, Mr. h. C. H. Dawson.
