HOUSE PAINTING.
ASSISTANCE FOR OWNERS. MOUNT ALBERT'S MOVE. Remarking that the scheme which provided for the granting of a subsidy to those owners who desired to have their Louses painted was not being taken advantage of to tlie extent that it should, Mr. R. Fcrner, Mayor of Mount Albert, said at last night's meeting of the council that he had made arrangements to assist those who contemplated applying for the subsidy by supplying all the necessary details. Forms to fill in were available at the council's office. Numbers of houses in the borough were badly in need of painting. On every house painting job of £15 the (subsidy granted by the Department of Labour was £3, and for every additional £1 the subsidy was 1/2, and beyond £100 8 per cent, with a maximum of £80. The owner of the property could choose his own contractor, provided the work was done by a recognised painter. He thought perhaps other local bodies might act similarly to the Mount Albert council, in assisting their own property owners. Mr. V. A. Coyle said the idea was an excellent one, and to give the people the information necessary should be of great benefit. A 4arge amount of work should be created. The Mayor's action was approved.
