CHILLED BEEF TRADE.

SHIPMENT FROM AUCKLAND. FARMERS' FREEZING COMPANY. Favourable reports have been received on the condition of the first shipment of chilled beef to London made by the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, Limited. The consignment was prepared at the Horotiu works on behalf of Thos." Borthwick and Sons, Limited, the cattle being specially selected from the herds of Messrs. R. 11. Bailey. Tirau; H. L. Bayly, Okoroire; D. Proctor, Orini; B. L. Orr, Ohinewai, and Mrs. W. Main, Tirau. The average weight was 1581b a quarter. Shipment was made by the New Zealand Shipping Company's motor vessel Durham and the consignment arrived in London cn July 30. The meat arrived in perfect condition, being entirely .free from mould. Borthwicks report on the consignment as follows: "The beef turned out in excellent condition, the dressing good and the quality satisfactory. It was well up to the best chilled that has been shipped from New Zealand. Our reports from every centre that handled this beef were satisfactory. Owing to heavy arrivals and hoc weather at the time, pnccs were low, the market just nt that period being in an over-supplied condition. However, that is quite apart from the question that the beef which the Ilorotiu works turned out was very well done." The shipment was also favourably commented on by Mr. A. G. Brown, general manager of the Farmers' Freezing Company, who was in London at the time the meat was marketed.
