SHORTAGE OF NURSES.

ONLY ONE APPLICANT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. In view of the difficulty being experienced in procuring stafF nurses, the Waihi Hospital Board decided last evening to adopt the rather unusual course of sending cases requiring major operations during the period of understaffing to the next nearest hospital. This decision was arrived at after consultation in committee with the medical superintendent, Dr. L. R. Hetherington.

The secretary reported that in response to an advertisement for five staff nurses only one application had been received, being from Miss H. Chatterton, of Stratford. He stated that there was a marked difficulty at the present time fell over New Zealand in procuring nurses.

The board decided to appoint Miss Ohatterton and to. make the best possible arrangements to carry on with the nurses and aids available.
