ATTITUDE TO LIFE.

Susan Russell, writing to Catholic girls in the current number of "Zealandia," gives them this excellent counsel, which girls and. older people in general might well take to heart:— Optimism, positiveness, the desire >to clear away limitations and to bring out the best that is in ourselves and in those around us—these "are the things that make life worth while, make iis feel that the world is a kindly, good place to li\;e in, no matter what obstacles we must overcome. Of course, such an attitude does not exclude criticism, but it directs criticism into constructive channels and interprets things always for the.best.. Try to look at life a little' more steadily, to see it as a whole, recognise its true values. And, above all, if there is doubt about what some other girl means, give her the benefit of the doubt; assume she meant well, until you're positive she didn't. By doing this we not only immeasurably increase our own happiness, but we become absorbed with the idea of sharing what happiness or advantages wc may have with others. The desire to'help others is a supreme thing in life. What we give is worth far more to us than what we get—the only baggage we can take away with us to that other land some day, when, we will need it so, aie the things we have done in His IN a mo- e\en to the cup of cold water and the kindly word. Let us always remember that and bo always helpful.

A PRAYER.

Almighty God, Who art the Supreme Ruler and Governor of all things, and a strong tower of defence to all who have that fear of Theo which is the beginning of wisdom, we beseech Tliee to be merciful to those who arc exposed to peri! and conflict, and to save and deliver the world from the calamity of war. Through Our Lord, Amen.
