Teams representing New Zealand and "world" insurance ollices played a friendly match at the Showgrounds, a spirited contest ending 18 —17 in favour of the New Zealand offices. The teams were:— New Zealand : Johnston, Richardson, Slierriff, Hook, Kilting, Mackay, Richardson, Slvflcld (captain). Potter, Didsbury, Owen, Kershaw, Buckley, Sharp. Fisher. World: Savory, J?reston, Pedrotti, Catron, Martin, O'Meara, Wilcox. Cooncy, Allsopp. Kirk, Hale, Campbell, Randall, Sellars, Hill. Playing with the wind behind them, the New Zealand team was early on the attack and after several attacks had broken down a blind side movement resulted in SherrifC scoring a trv, which Mackay converted. A breakaway by Martin (World) was well stopped by Johnston and then Mackay threatened danger, but Savory cleared. Another breakaway by Catron (World) was held up bv Johnston, but from a resultant pcnaltv Pedrotti kicked a goal. New Zealand was quickly on the attack again, and following a line-out live yards from the line Sly field went acros for a try, which was converted by Mackay. A further spell of midfield play followed and then, as the result of a passing run initiated by Johnston. Richardson (New Zealand) added a further trv. which was again converted by Macka.v. Shortly after a good movement was commenced by Hook, who secured the ball again and scored wide out. The kick failed and the half-time score was 18—3 in favour of the New Zealand team. With the wind behind them, the World team was early on the attack, and before the second spell had been in progress very long a passing rush resulted in Preston scoring. Almost immediately a ragged movement ended in a try by Kirk, which was converted by Martin, making the score 18 —11. Following midfield play a free was awarded to the World team in a handy position, but Savory failed to turn it to account. However, shortly after Pedrotti was successful in turning a penalty to account from a different angle. A further try by Martin made the score 18—17, the kick failing. Both sides made strenuous efforts to add to their totals, the New Zealand team being unfortunate not to score on several occasions, and at the final whistle the score was still one point in favour of the New Zealand team. Mr. E. Macintosh was referee.
