A.J.C. DOUBLE

THE FIRST ACCEPTORS

Following arc tlie first acceptors for the big handicaps at tlio Australian Jockey Club's spring meeting next month :—• EI'SOM HANDICAP of £2000.

STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

RESUMED WORK. F. Christmas has taken Manetho in hand again at Riccarton. He has been resting since Slay, when he competed at Amberley, and he looks in good health to start another preparation. NEARLY READY. Fracas has been working steadily at Riccarton tor some time and she is gradually getting into racing shape. It is probable that sue will make her iirst appearance for the season at the Wellington .Racing Club's spring meeting next month. BACK HOME AGAIN. The Pahnerston North horseman W-. J. Broughton, who had to have his leg rcbroken and again set on his return from the Grand National meeting at Clnistcliurch, has received his discharge from hospital and is now at his own home. WILL DO BETTER. Colombo has been put into work again at Riccarton after a short spell, and he may be racing before the season is much further advanced. He is well endowed with speed and probably requires only age to become u solid racing proposition. Already he has shown useful form, but he should do even better this season. CUP CANDIDATE. Star Raider is doing very well in his work at Riccarton. He has shown great improvement in his racing, his recent form being very consistent, and he should be an early winner. He is one of Riccarton's candidates for the New Zealand Cup and he may prove a useful sort, as ho has given evidence that he can stay. HAS SOME SPEED. Alma, a three-year-old filly by Paper Honey, has been sent to P. T. Hogan's stable at Washdyke and she may be seen at the Gevaldiiie meeting next week. Alma is a speedy galloper, but she was very fractious last season. She is owned by Mr, L. C. Hazlett, from whom Hogan held Water Power on lease for her racing career. DOING WELL. 11. Rama has Horowlienua doing good work at Riccarton. He is very forward as a result of his racing during the winter and he may not be long in getting another stake. Ho is one horse, who will be favoured if the tracks arc soft for the spring meetings. His stablemate, Tooley Street, is a promising galloper, who should be improved by racing. MAY BE SPELLED. Although Hounslow remains in his old quarters in T. 11. Gillett's stable, it is doubtful if he will be gone on with at present. With nothing in sight, except the brush hurdle races at the New Zealand Cup meeting, it is probable lie will be sent out for a good spell. When he comes back in the autumn he will be started on a preparation for stceplcchasing. THRIVES ON RACING. Old Refresher thrives on racing and his outings at the Taranaki Hunt meetings and at Wangantii did him good. He appeared to be a trifle unlucky to have to put up with a third placing on Saturday at Wanganui. One of the evergreen type, Refresher is by no means a back number, and lie may bo given a chance to repeat his 1932 Waverlcy Cup success. A YOUNG TRAINER. I). Cotton is keeping his team busy at Riccarton and he may produce a winner before long the Christchurch "Star"). Riptide is in excellent order, and should race well at early meetings. Gold Cross has built up since he joined the Riccarton stable, and now looks a reasonable prospect, though there has been nothing in his recent form to encourage high hopes.

IN NEW QUARTERS. Cyclonic will be in new quarters when next lie is worked. He lias been unsound ever since lie went to Riccarton and A. McAulay lias disposed of him to R. McLennan, who intends to have the Hunting Song gelding blistered, as a preliminary to a long spell. He may not bo easy to get right, but he is worth a bit of trouble, as he is a good galloper when at his best. LACKED STAMINA. Lady Eka has previously lacked stamina in her races, but she hung on so well to Gay Boy in the Putiki Handicap at Wanganui last week, only being beaten by three-quarters of a length, and it looks as if she will soon lose her maiden status. Lady Eka is now trained by the ex-South Auckland mentor G. A. Rcid, who has removed to Stratford. NOT HIS TRUE FORM. Mustang performed so poorly in his two races at Wanganui that he will need to improve a lot to win (says a Taranaki writer). However, one cannot feel other than that this was not the true form of tlie Musketoon gelding, and over a longer distance he may be seen to more advantage. If he runs up to his second to Tonncrre at New there should be a race for Mustang at Waverley. A POSSIBILITY. Tahurangi was given only one race at Wanganui, but his luck was right out on Saturday, for he was in trouble from the word go, due to his rider being content to drift in the early stagi's (says the Taranaki "Herald"). Tahurangi possesses a fair amount of early pace and should not have been so far back. His next outing will probably be in the Wav.erley Cup, in which he cannot be counted out. A PATIENT POLICY. C. Davey, the Riccarton trainer, has made another start to get Davolo ready to race. The Pombal gelding had to be spelled as the result of being galloped on at the last New Zealand Cup meeting, but lie had a couple of races at Trentham in July. He has recovered from his old trouble, but the experience of galloping in the heavy going knocked him back again, so he will not be ready to show any form until later in the season. MAY STAY ON. Madam Pompadour is going on well in her preparation at Riccarton for spring racing. She has shown signs of stamina and she may be useful this season, as the Arrowsmiths seem to require time. Nappy, another c-f E. Scoullar's team, is a three-year-old by Night Raid from Louise, thus a half-brother to Madam Pompadour. He is starting to get into good shape. Scoullar expects to have some young horses from Southland in liis team soon. Mr. W. E. Hazlett is busy educating a from his father's stud, and the best of them will be sent to Riccarton.
