GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.

GOOD FINANCIAL POSITION. The annual report of the Auckland branch of the Girls' Friendly Society was presented by the honorary secretary, Miss M. Heywood, at the annual meeting held in the lodge, Wellesley Street, last evening. Archbishop Averill presided. A brief survey of the year's activities was given, showing that the society is maintaining a good financial position and has made steady progress during tne past year. It was mentioned that the diamond jubilee of the society had been celebrated throughout the world and festivals in fellowship and prayer had been held to commemorate this. Mention was also made of the Sunday teas and talks which were much enjoyed, and the opportunities afforded working girls visiting the lodge during lunch hours. According to the report splendid work had been done by the junior committee in arranging for two rallies. It was hoped that before long an organising secretary would be found to visit the various branches where work was needing to be done. A new branch had been formed at St. George's, Kingsland. A tribute was paid in the report to the ability* of the matron, Miss Hunter, to whose careful and experienced housekeeping the society was indebted.

The financial statement disclosed that the overdraft to the bank for the lodge rebuilding account had been reduced to £450. The sick fund report showed a credit balance of £59, and the lodge account showed a balance of £100, the receipts including £1000 from boarders, £310 from the Robin Hood pageant and £10 from subscriptions. Archbishop Averill, in moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet, congratulated the society on the wonderful work they had done. It was a very fine thing, he said, to have a society based oh a spiritual and moral foundation, and as long as the ideals of the society were adhered to its usefulness would continue. Archbishop Averill expressed the hope that the junior league would go forward with the good work it was doing and so carry out the ideals of service.
