ITALY BUYS BRAZIL MEAT.
PAYMENT IN SUBMARINES
RIO DE JANEIRO, August 10
Dispatches from Porto Alegre, capital of the live stock State of Rio Grande do Sol, said to-day that Italy had purchased 310,000 metric tons of Brazilian jerked beef for lier Ethiopian campaign. Italian overtures to obtain Argentine meat recently received little encouiagement because an agreement on prices seemed impossible, it was reported. The Brazilian Marine Ministry, however, recently sent to President Getulio Vargas for approval a tentative contract whereby an Italian firm would build submarines and" a tank ship in exchange for unspecified Brazilian goods.
