SOUTHERN EXCHANGES.
CHRISTCHURCH PRICES DECLINE. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CTIRISTCHURCH, this day. The Exchange showed distinctly "bearish" characteristics this morning. A selling nervousness brought prices back sharply for a number of issues, especially Australian industrials. The downward movement was more definite than earlier, the markets closing on a weak note. A few exceptions provided bright spots. Sellers of Reserve Banks lowered their limits to £0 9/6, compared with £6 10/ yesterday, buyers dropping to a purely nominal quotation of £0. Commercials were slightly better, with buyers at 10/5. Mortgage Corporation slipped rapidly, buyers offering 5/7 and sellers asking 5/9, compared with last business at 0/4. Goldsbroughs were again weaker, with sellers at £1 10/ ii and buyers at £1 9/5. Guarantees proved the exception and rose, with buyers at 5/0. Concessions were also made. New Zealand Breweries fell to £'2 11/, and Tooth's were well down, with buyers at £2 12/6 and sellers at £2 13/0. Miscellaneous Australian issues were erratic, buyers in some cases dropping to nominal quotations. Only Australian Glass, for example, were quoted at from £3 15/ to £4 2/6. Broken Hills sold 5d lower, at £3 4/, after which sellers asked £3 3/10, with buyers at £3 3/. Zinc (ord.) fell away, with buyers at £1 7/ and sellers at £1 8/. Dunlops and Coles were the exceptions, the former being steady from 14/3 to 14/5, and the latter from £3 7/ to £3 7/0. New Zealand company shares were much steadier than Australian.
Mining shares were very quiet. Mount Morgans joined the weaker quotations, sellers being down to £ 1 16/9, with buyers at £1 15/6. Woolworths (Sydney) showed a check (buyers ottering £5 5/ and sellers asking £5 10/. Emperors were on offer at £17/.
