TEACHERS' LEAVE.
PARTICIPATION IN SPORT. GOLFER'S POSITION DISCUSSED. (By Telegraph.—l'rcss Association.) CHRISTCIIURCH, Friday Whether the present was considered an opportune time to grant teachers leave for sport was a question asked bv Mr. J. J. Hurley at to-day's meeting 0 f the Canterbury Education Board, referring to a few days' leave granted Mr. A R. Blank, headmaster of the Fendal'ton School, to compete in the New Zealand golf championships to be played at Shirley next month. It was reported that a few days' leave had been granted from October 11. Tile appointments committee had been unanimous, declared Mr. R. Wild, the chairman of the committee. Several members defended the granting of leave.
The chairman of the board, Mr. C. S Thompson, recalled that Mr. W.' A Banks, a present member of the board' had been granted six months' leave when in the teaching profession to enable him to compete at the Bisley rifle meeting. It was stated that probably one teaching day only would be required off by Mr. Blank*.
