LABOUR'S POSITION.
ALLEGATION REPLIED TO. STATEMENT BY MR. SAVAGE. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Savage, to-day made the following statement in reply to the allegation that tho Labour party was in secret agreement with tho Douglas Credit party:— "(1) Labour has no secret understanding or working agreement with any other party. "(2) It is true that our objective is similar to the objective of those who advocate the use of public credit as a means of developing the resources of the Dominion and making available to the people the fruits of their labour. "(3) It is not the duty of any political party to supply details of tho working of its policy, which involves control and administration of all Departments of the State, and it would not be possible to do so without access to all relevant facts. "(4) Labour has already made it abundantly clear that its policy is to establish a monetary and credit system by means of which economic prices of the country's total production would bo reflected in the purchasing power of tho people. "(5) Labour does not admit that the intelligent use of public credit would result in a violent disturbance in tho economic life of the country.' We claim that that is the position now. Our object is towards stabilisation with maximum progress. "(6) Labour is attempting to secure undivided support of all progressive forces, including monetary reformers, for tho purpose of restoring prosperity 'in New Zealand."
