IN A WEEK OR TWO
WAR OF AGGRESSION.
Lloyd George Sees World Headed For Catastrophe. FAILURE OF THE LEAGUE. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 1t.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 19. "We are "within a week or a fortnight of as great a war of aggression as Germany's attack on Belgium," declared Mr. Lloyd George, speaking at Bradford. He added: "I. am frankly alarmed. It seems to me the world is heading for a great catastrophe. "The delays which have occurred are inexcusable. The situation should not have beeu allowed to reach a point where it was most difficult for the parties to recede. "Signor Mussolini is merely offered desert areas. You cannot propitiate a hungry tiger with salted boulders. None at Geneva can tell what the next step will be. Britain is only tentatively feeling her way to see how far the other Powers will go without telling them how far we are prepared to go ourselves. "Economic sanctions will be too late. What is the use of talking of thein when Signor Mussolini has got 1,000,000 men under arms with pyramids of ammunition close to the Abyssinian border. The Powers have had only one triumph. They have prevented Abyssinia from buying munitions to defend her liberty.
"The League has been let down. Britain must elect a Parliament to see that such a muddle is not repeated."
