CITY COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING, The Auckland City Council met last evening, the layor, Mr. Ernest Davis, presiding:. Municipal Band. —The Mayor reported that the question of the organisation of the Municipal Band and its programme arrangements was being dealt with by a special committee, comprising the Mayor and Messrs. Bailey and Martin. Abattoir Employees.—The public services committee reported that the agreement reached between the council and the employees of the Abattoir Assistants Union meant an increased cost to the council of £1000 per annum, restoration of cuts amounting to £1000.
Y.M.C.A. Campaign.—Permission was granted the Womens' Progressive Club, Y.M.C.A., to hold a procession from Western Springs along Karangahape Road to the Y.M.C.A. on Saturday, November 9, in aid of the Y.M.C.A. £5000 campaign. Public Meeting.—The use of the Town Hall for a public meeting to be held on September 24 by the group of clergy who have championed the cause of the unemployed, was granted.
