THE MISSING LINKS.
Central Asia Link . Connecting Apes and Man. BRITISH EXPERT'S VIEW. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LOXDOX, September 9. "The missing links connecting apes with man will most likely be found in the south-west of Central Asia," said Sir Arthur Smith-Woodward, keeper of the Geological Department, British Museum, addressing the British Association. He added that the Himalayan ridge, running east and west, was gradually raised up 00,000,000 years ago when Northern India was covered with a great forest swarming with various kinds of apes. Those stranded on the northern ridge were subjected to inclement conditions and were also disturbed by the destruction of trees. Accordingly they were forced to become ground apes and change their feeding habits, whereby they were ■ modified in the direction of man.
