SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A morning tea was given in George Court and' Sons' reception room on Saturday by' Mrs. W. S. Harris and Mrs. J. Harland to entertain the visiting badminton players. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Smith, Fow, College, Salisbury, Wylie, Harland, Bradanovich, Griffiths, Harris, Misses Dempster, Gower, Edmofldeon, Street, Clongh and Vincent. • * • • A delightful bridge afternoon was held in George Court and Sons', Ltd., reception ' room on Friday afternoon. Spring flowers were in abundance about the lounge and the reception room. Among thoeo present were: Mesdames Burton, Rolfe, White, Reid, Lloyd, Stevens J. Stewart, R. Wilson, Pocock, D. Harvey, Robinson, Abbott, Finlay, Bold, Ohlson, Hamilton, A. Harvey, Alison, Misses McQueen (Wellington), F. Hall, N. Gregory, N. Poneford, A. Fitzpatrick Stewart, Stubbs, Garland, Preece, N. Mahon, J. Easton, Amy Hall, Grierson, G. Easton, L. Hall, R. Muhon, Churton, McGowan, Grove, Dalton, Schnauer, Field and Haslett. * * • On Saturday night af her homo in Grey Lynn, Mrs. Margaret Cooper gave a party to celebrate the birthday of her daughter. Miss Nan Buchan, and that of Miss Eileen Ryan. Lovely spring flowers, effectively arranged in the drawing and dining rooms, provided an attractive setting. Mrs.'Cooper received the guests in a frock of black chenille velvet. Games, competitions and musical items were enjoyed by the young people, winners of tho competitions being Miss Edith Paice and Doris Feil, Messrs. David Walker, Kelly Harris ana Alec Wishart. Among those present were: ' Misses Gwen Williams, Edith Paice, Sybil Dunne, Charlenc Woods, Janet Woods, Robina Harding, Doris Feil, Vera Douglas, Mabel Kewne. Hilarity reigned at tho Paparaoa Hall on Saturday night, when an evening was given by the Papanioa residents to Mr. and Mrs. George Whiteside, whose marriage took place recently. Mrs. C. Riddell was musician for the evening, while Mr, Orr Taylor was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Morton and partner, while Miss Olive Fenton and Mr. George Webber were successful in winning the statue waltz. "Jardoo tho Conjurer," ". entertained the guests during the even- ■ ing with his many tricks. A brief speech - was made by Mr. Orr Taylor, after 3 which a tea service and a eet of glasses ' and a jug wero presented to Mr. and < Mrs. Whiteside. s
