DAMAGED IN STORM.

AID FOR PLEASURE VESSEL. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, September 8. The Southern Railway Company's pleasure steamer Whippingham, carrying 400 passengers from Portsmouth to Bournemouth on Thursday evening, encountered heavy weather in Christchurch Bay and broke a paddle. A lifeboat from Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, and steamers from Bournemouth and Southampton went to her assistance, but were unsuccessful owing, to the rough seas. However, the Whippingham, which was not making water, was taken in tow later and on reaching smoother water the passengers were safely transferred to another of the Southern Railway Company's steamers. Early, on Saturday morning the Whippingham was towed into Portsmouth.
