FINE PLAYGROUND.
AREA AT REMUERA.
FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN.
The reserve at the corner of Remuera and Wairere Roads, Remuera, which has been converted into lawns and gardens by workers under the No. f> scheme, is to be equipped in the immediate future •with playing facilities for children. The area, which comprises almost two acres and a half, has been leased by the Auckland City Council from the Crown for an indefinite period, the lease to be terminated on six months' notice. It ■was originally intended for junior high school purposes, and in the days of the Remuera Town Board was the site of the pound. Recently the chairman of the parks and reserves committee, Mr. E. J. Phelan, and representatives of the Remuera East Ratepayers' Association, which has contributed £50 towards the cost of equipping the playground, inspected the area and selected the various sites for a merry-go-round, swings, see-saws and chutes. The equipment, which has already been manufactured, will, cost £140 installed, and the balance of the cost over and above the contribution by the residents will be met by the City Council.
