PRIMARY TOURNAMENT.

YESTERDAY'S PROGRAMME.

There was a large attendance of spectators yesterday to witness the opening of the primary schools'-tournament at Victoria Park, for the Fordham Shield. Representative teams from the city and suburban groups took part in the first match of the tourney. Suburban ran out winners by 5 goale to 1, after an interest" ing encounter. City were the lighter side and produced very good football in the early exchanges, Sutton- and Gisby combining well. City found the Suburban defence too much for them, but it was eventually pierced by Sutton, after 20 minutes' play. City 1, Suburban 0. It was not long before Suburbs equalised from a good shot by, Campbell from close range. Suburbs monopolised the game until half-time, when the scores were City 1, Suburbs 1. During the first spell Suburbs out-played and out-generalled the City team, with the exception of Gisby, Bussey and Morris. Morrison secured the "hat-trick" for Suburbs, all of the three chances being splendidly taken. The third goal was a masterly finish to a great raid, initiated by Boddy. Suburbs' fifth goal was registered by Harland, after a brilliant clearance by City's custodian. The final whistle found Suburban the winners by 5 goals to 1. Mr. Webster was referee. The second match of the series wae played at 2 p.m., when Marine Suburbs, in spite of a weakened side, consisting of only nine players, were able to make a draw against City, the score being one goal each. Sutton netted for City within two_ minutes, and shortly afterwards, from a nice cross by Patterson, Moyle equalised for Marine Suburbs. Stone, Edwards and King played well for Marine Suburbs, and Gisby, Sutton and Gray excelled for City. Marine Suburbs-played a great game and deserved to win. Mr. A. B. Chappell was referee.
