BANKRUPTCY.
CONDITIONAL DISCHARGES. HOTEL LICENSEE'S DEBTS. Of six motions for discharge from bankruptcy which came before Mr. Justice Smith in the Supreme Court this morning, only one was granted unconditionally. The exception was John LeslieN Hume, taxi proprietor, formerly of Wailii, and now of Aongatete, whose failure his Honor mentioned was due to misfortune. In the case of Mary Jane Evans (Mr. Meek), married woman, of Waiwera, his Honor said that the Official Assignee's report stated that bankrupt had not kept proper books. Mr. Meek replied that bankrupt had employed an accountant. His Honor: Yes, but the information she gave him was misleading, in that she did not disclose all her liabilities. That is what the report states. The bankrupt, who had been licensee of the Waiwera Hotel for five years, had been insolvent all the time, according to the assignee's report, added his Honor. Counsel said that bankrupt went into the hotel with the full knowledge and approval of her creditors. She paid her way the first year, but then met with three wet seasons. The discharge was granted subject to three months' suspension. Three months' suspension was also the condition uncVr which discharges were granted Hector James Martin (Mr Matthews), garage proprietor, Auckland, Jane Chapman Williamson (Mr. Laurie), married woman, of Te Atatu, and Trevor Innes McGuire (Mr. Wilson), builder, of Auckland. The period of suspension in regard to Barnett Forman (Mr. Wilson), unemployed, of Ponsonby, was two months. An order for adjudication was made against L. G. Lester, also known as Goodwin, fishmonger, of Papatoetoc.
