WAIHI HOSPITAL.
STAFF VACANCIES. SCORES OF APPLICANTS. SPECIAL MEETING TO-NIGHT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. A new development in the Waihi Hospital trouble is the calling of a special meeting of the board to-night, at the instance of Dr. R. A. Shore, director of the hospitals' division of the Health Department. The board will discuss with him the present position of hospital affairs. Dr. Shore, who will arrive by the express this afternoon, conducted an inquiry some two years ago following a somewhat similar trouble in Waihi. No fewer than 57 applications for the five positions of hospital aides vere received last evening. they included one of the old staff who had resigned. The applications will be considered at an extraordinary meeting of the board on Saturday evening, when the t cognations of the medical superintendent, Dr. L. R. Hetherington, and the assistant medical superintendent, Dr. F. Barrowclough, will also be discussed. The hospital aides appointed will take up their duties on September 4. A remarkable feature is the number of applicants for the vacancies <in the staff. No fewer than 92 applications have been received for 13 positions. Five members of the old staff have applied. Applications for the positions of senior and junior sisters, and six staff nurses, close on September a, and tfiat for matron on September 12. It is anticipated that will be no difficulty in filling these positions also.
