jfr's.' R7 M. Scelly was hosf&s at aj bridge and mah jong afternoon which was held in George Court's reception room on Wednesday. Among those present were: Mesdames B. Stitchbury, Goodacre, Alexander, W. B. Suttie, McCrone, Mellars, T. Revell, W. Clavis, French, Nettleton, Misses Rudd, Olive Ilardie Neil, N. Montgomery, Paterson, Shirley Watkins, Grace Eraser, J. Neill, Whibley and Lois Stone.
The members of the Overseas League held a bridge afternoon in the league looms yesterday. Prizes were won by Mrs. A. Schmidt (highest score), Mrs. Marks (hidden number), Mrs. Gardner (consolation). Among those present were: Mesdames A. E. French, Harold Schmidt, W. S. Broekway, A. G. Glover. O. F. Wells, E. Miller, H. Smith, H. Hawkins, H. Parker, N. G. Fletcher, Tomlin, Berry, Smart, Gardner, MacMillan, Cook, Wallace, Marks, C. Revell, S. Paul, Taylor, W. Neumegen, J. Benton, G. W. Plumiiier, J. Sage, Misses Bent and Spargo (2).
To celebrate their silver wedding Mr. and Mrs. Markwick, of Balmoral, entertained a number of friends in the Carlton Hall, Sandringham, on Saturday last. The hall was tastefully decorated and the guests thoroughly enjoyed the variety programme, which included games, competitions and dancing. At supper opportunity was taken to present Mr. and Mrs. Markwick with a piece of plate on behalf of thb Balmoral Presbyterian choir. Amongst the guests were the wedding groupMrs. C. Ford, Mrs. W. E. Carter* (bridesmaids), Mr. A. Bridson (best man) and Mr. H. Markwick (groomsman).
The St. John's Methodist Women's Guild entertained a large gathering of members and friends at an At Home m St. John's schoolroom on Tuesday afternoon. The president, Mrs. F. J. Handy, presided. Iceland poppies, wattle, palms and ferns, effectively arranged by Miss J- Wilson, delighted all. A presentation of a posy of violets and maidenhair tern was made to Mrs. A. J. Blomiield, an original member of the guild. Vocal items were rendered by Mrs. de Berg, Rev. A. Mitchell and Mr. Roger Errington; a humorous sketch, "The Crystal Gazer," by Mesdames J. Poole and E. D. Thomas; elocution item, by Mrs. J. Poole; piano solo, by Master A. Hemming. Mrs. R. Reed acted as accompanist.
