Rain curtailed some of the English county cricket matches which commenced on Saturday. Results: — Middlesex: First innings, 295 (Hendven 05). Kent: First innings, 70 (Hearne four for 11); follow-on, 116 (Grey six for 32). Middlesex won by an innings and 109 runs. Yorkshire: First innings, eight for 299, declared. f/jrrey: First innings, 44 (Verity six for 24); follow-on, three for 2G. * Yorkshire won on the first innings. Worcester: First innings, 305 (Gibbons 84, Bull 118). Warwick: First innings, 131; follow-on, 123 (Howorth five for 37).. Worcester won by an innings and 111 runs. Essex: First innings, 230. Glamorgan: First innings, 43 (Nichols seven for 15, Eastman three for 7); follow-on, 101 (P. Smith six for 58). Essex won by an innings and 92 runs. Derby: First innings, 190 (Boyes four for 40) ; second, six for 120, declared. Hampshire: First innings, 134 (A. Pope five for 35); second, 102 (A. Pope five for 41). Derby won by 80 runs.
