PREFERENTIAL VOTING.
Your correspondent Mr. A. J. Willis, in your issue of Saturday last, is very much to the point on an issue of tremendous importance to this country. In an alleged democracy i* !s vital that a majority and not a minority should govern. In a few weeks now electors will be fairly bombarded with all manner of ideas and platforms, currency reform, exchange, meat qtiotas, etc., at interminable length, but if the history of other elections is repeated nothing will be said as to the need of electoral reform by means of prefential 'voting. It is very unlikely that the present Government will move in the matter in this final session of Parliament. And New Zealand will probably have to wait for another Government; and' Mr. Willis and all supporters of electoral reform should not only refuse -to vote for any present members of Parliament who refuse to support such a measure, but should actively identify themselves with a party or candidates who will pledge themselves to put this reform on the 'Statute Book. J. RE-A.
