TE KORERO For Boy Scouts
A Gesture of Appreciation. That tho spirit of scouting is a very real factor in the lives of the scouts of the Auckland Province was amply testified to when on Sunday last a very pleasing ceremony was performed at the Auckland Hospital. Thankful that Mr. Hoklsworth, their metropolitan chief, had made such a splendid recovery from his serious illness, scoutcrs representing 2000 cubs, scouts and rover scouts of the Auckland metropolitan area presented Mr. Hoklsworth with a cheque in order that he might pass it on to the Hospital Board to purchase a cot for the solarium. The ceremony of handing over was simple, dignified and impressive, attributable to the fact that Mr. Hoklsworth was still confined to bed and the ceremony took place outside his window in ward 14. The real beauty of the gift lay in the fact that it was the result of an infinitesimal contribution by each and every cub, scout, rover and scouter in the province. But the spirit behind the gesture was one calculated to display the joy of Mr. Holdsworth's recovery, appreciation of his work in the scout movement and as a gesture of gratitude towards the •Auckland Hospital staff. who have lavished all possible care and attention upon Mr. Hoklsworth during his illness. The whole ceremony occupied but a few minutes, but those few minutes will be long remembered by the group of scouters who witnessed it.
