UTIKU INSTITUTE.

The second birthday of the Utikn Women's .Institute was celebrated in the Utikit Hall recently. Among the visitors present were Mrs. Brine, president of the Wanganui Federation, who made an appeal for clothing for the Porirua patients; Mrs. Farley, treasurer of the Wanganui Federation, who spoke on the sick "benefit fund; Mrs. Dale, reporter for the magazine "Home and Country"; and Mrs. Miller, voluntary organiser, who warmly congratulated the institute on its rapid growth during the past two years. During the afternoon various items were given by Mrs. Witherington (recitation), Miss Gwen Beid (dance), Mrs. Jurgons and Miss Prime (pianoforte duet). Mrs. Pairman, of Mangaweka, made a presentation of a ifouquet to the president, Mrs. Dellow. Miss J. Marsh was made the recipient of a silver spoon for securing the heaviest weight in the potato competition, the presentation being made by Mrs. Brine. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. G. Transom for the presentation of a tea wagon to the institute. The competitions resulted as follows:—Senior: Miss G. Anderson 1, Mrs. W. P. Anderson 2, Miss Fannin 3. Junior: Miss Dellow and Mrs. E. R. Fannin, equal, 1, Miss G. Gibbs 2.
