SYLVIA MINE. TREATMENT OF COMPLEX ORES. Tho report on the sample of 2owt of oro obtained at the Sylvia mine, Thames, slilppetl to Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., London, for troatnicnt at tliat company's works at Billiiighani, and for their advice iik to tho best methods for the economic recovery of both the precious and base metals, has now been received by the directors. The directors stale that, the report Jjelng of n private and confidential nature,it is not available for publication, but the reseult of the experiments carried out In the treatment of the ore under modern oil flotation methods, shows that a most satisfactory percentage of all the metal contents of the ore can be saved. According to the mines statements during the years 1013 and 1016. a total of 1 1.54." tons from the Sylvia mine was treated for a return under amalgamation and cyanidation of £20,710 10/0, or under 27./ per ton. Based on the statement and experience of Dr. Sculedel, that approximately £3 l«i/ petton of ore in the Sylvia for sold and silver content represents a true average value, it will he seen that 27/ per ton obtained was very low. From the report of Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., it would appear that had the present recovery methods been then available and fpplled to that ore approximately £2 19/0 per ton of ore could have been recovered in the precious metals, and in addition a recovery value in base metals of approximately £'_' per ton, assuming the base metal contents of the ore treated for those years equalled those of the samples forwarded to London, giving a total recovery value of £4 10/0, against 27/, previously obtained. Under the present prices for gold and silver the recovery values will be again greatly enhanced. The company is now in further i sultntion with Imperial Chemical Industries. Ltd., with regard to details and costs of a suitable recovery plant to install. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.
