A sensation was caused 1 some months ago when the Government ' Actuary announced that the English teachers' pension fund was £10.000.000 "short" because teachers lived lonjrer i than the actuaries had forecast. This ; j week the Government actuary issued his •: report on the Scottish teachers' pension I fund. It has a credit balance of £250.000. Reasons for the difference: In Scotland , teachers work longer and live shorter. , The average a-*e for claiming pensions iin Scotland is sixty-three; in. England ' sixty-one and a half.
