AUSTRALIAN BANKS LOWER. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The market opened somewhat hesitantly and holders were inclined to make concessions. The margin between quotations was, however, wider. Mortgage Corporation dropped sharply. In the Government section there was little change. 1940 issues were a sliade firmer. Buyers of the inscribed stock offered £101 12/G and sellers asked £102 2/0, and for bonds the limits were £101 17/0 and £102 10/. Commercial Banks had sellers at 16/9, while buyers stopped at 15/. Commercials of Sydney were very wide, with buyers at £16 10/ and sellers at £17 17/6. National of Australasias, paid, were available at £13 9/, following business last week at £14 1/. Sellers of New South Wales reduced their price by 10/, to £32 10/. Buyers stopped at £31. E., S. and A.'s, New Zealands, Reserves and Unions were steady. Mortgage Corporation shares had reported business at 6/5, and dealings on 'Change at 6/1 and 6/. More were offered at the lower price. Goldsbrough, Morts had unsupported sellers at £1 13/. New Zealand Breweries had buyers 1/ down, at £2 11/, while sellers were firm at £2 12/8. Anthony Horderns had a sale and sellers at 19/. Australian Glass moved up 6d, to £3 12/0. Broken Hills were steady. Dunlop Rubbers had business and buyers at 14/8. Coles changed hands at .£3 8/2. Farmers' Fertilisers, ex div., had buyers at 16/9 and sellers at 18/6. The demand for Wilsons Cements was strong, with buyers at £2 2/4 and sellers at £2 2/9. Mahakipawas had business at 2d, and buyers at 2%d. Mount Morgans were wider, with buyers back to £1 16/6 and sellers at £1 18/6. Antonios Sluicing shares were transferred to the listed section, with buyers at 3%d, and sellers 9d.
