WEEK OPENS QUIETLY. BANKS SLIP BACK. The Stock Exchange commenced the week quietly, and only five sales were recorded at the first call. The banking section was definitely easier, with many blanks on the buyers side of the quotations. Insurances were in oetter demand, and New Zealands changed hands at £3 7/. More were available at that figure, buyers dropping back to £3 6/6. Buyers came in for Queensland at £2 18/6 and at £4 15/ for South British. . In Australian issues Colonial (sugars were easier, and sellers dropped their reserves to £44 10/ without attracting a counter-offer. . . Fiji mining shares were again in request, but buvers' ideas of values are apparently being 'revised. Nasiui, which changed hands 10 days ago at £2S, were on oiler at £20, with no buyer in sight. Mount Kasis sold at £1 2/3, compared with £1 7/ last week. The Noon Call. Business was fairly quiet at noon and few alterations in quotations from the morning's call were recorded. The banking section was. steady, buyers of Commercials reducing their offers to 16/3, while sellers came down to 17/. The sale of Consolidated Brick shows a drop of 3d on the previous one on the 23rd at 11/7. This figure was a Id above a long series of «ales which has extended from the beginning of the month. The market now lies between 11/1 and 11/4. Mortgage Corporations are also weakening, and this no doubt is due to the bond issue. Buyers fell from 6/4 to 6/2, while holders are willing to sell at 5d cheaper, at 6/3. SALES COMPUSTED. AT THE 10 A.M. CAUL TO-DAY— Last Sale. £sd £ s d N.Z. Insurance, 2 3 7 O _ 3 7 0 Pom.
